IELTS or International English Language Testing System is a standardised English proficiency examination taken by non-native speakers going to English-speaking countries to study, work or live. It is recognized and accepted by more than 9,000 organizations all around the world, including educational institutions, employers, governments and professional bodies. There are two types of IELTS examinations that serve different purposes: Academic and General.
Types of IELTS Exam
The IELTS exam is available in two formats: IELTS Academic for candidates who are looking to study abroad in an English-speaking country and IELTS General for candidates who are looking to travel to English-speaking countries for immigration purposes. IDP IELTS – the conducting body of the IELTS exam offers the IELTS in two formats: IELTS on computer and IELTS on Paper. Candidates opting for the ‘IELTS on a computer’ will be required to use a computer to appear for the Reading, Listening and Writing sections of the IELTS exam. The face-to-face IELTS Speaking section would be required to be completed on the same day either just before or after the Reading, Listening and Writing tests. The computer-delivered IELTS test is available up to 3 times a day on all 7 days a week.
Candidates opting for the ‘IELTS on paper’ will be required to complete the Reading, Listening and Writing sections of the IELTS on paper in one seating with no breaks. The face-to-face speaking test would have to be completed with an IELTS examiner one week before or after your IELTS on the paper test date. One of the major differences between the two formats of the exam is the announcement of IELTS results. While the IELTS results for the computer-delivered test are made available in 3-5 working days. Candidates opting for the IELTS paper-delivered test would be required to wait for 13 calendar days for their IELTS results.
How to Register for the IELTS exam

Visit the official IDP IELTS website and Register for the exam

Click on ‘Find IELTS Test Date’ and enter the month city and module of choice

You will be then redirected to the IELTS Application: Check Test Availability page

Candidates are required to select the desired IELTS date and click ‘Apply’

Candidates would be then required to pay the IELTS exam fee of INR 16,250

Candidates would receive an acknowledgement slip of their booking along with details of the IELTS exam.
