About the Hackathon   Are you studying computer science, data science or a related discipline? Our exciting new Mercuria Hackathon is coming to India this November! Powered by innovative tech companies Amphora and Curl, the 2024 edition of the Mercuria Hackathon will take place over 2 days in Bangalore, India. Join us for an exhilarating 36 hours across Friday 15th and Saturday 16th November, 2024 at one of Bangalore’s premier hotels.   The challenge We are currently designing the specifics of the challenge, details of which will be published soon. Participants can be confident that the themes covered will be related to both India and the energy industry and the entire event will be designed to push your skills to the limit. Unlike other hackathons that you may have attended, we will be grouping individuals to see how they collaborate effectively in an unfamiliar setting. As such we require applications from individuals and not teams. Teams will be allocated by us a few days prior to the start of the event. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams at the event. About the Competition We are organising the third National Essay Writing Competition on 4th October 2024 from 2.30 PM to 4.30 PM (two hours’ duration). Mode: Conventional pen and paper mode by way of physical participation by the candidates. Medium: Participants may write their essay in either Hindi or English. Introduction The primary goal of this Hackathon – 2024 is to explore innovative AI technologies that can be integrated into the day-to-day operations of the Supreme Court’s Registry. These technologies should not only comply with the Supreme Court Rules, 2013, but also bring about a significant positive impact on the Court's efficiency, accuracy, and overall functionality. To continue the tradition of brainstorming ideas for resolution of problems, challenges, refinement of workflow, and efficiency gains by the Registry, Hackathon 2023 was organized to explore solutions and ideas.   Theme Exploring solutions in Artificial Intelligence-based technology for improving and further streamlining the official functions performed in the Registry of the Supreme Court of India.   Problem Statements Statement-A Development of an artificial intelligence-based model for extraction of data including metadata, data fields such as name of parties, address, Act, section – legal provisions, subject categories, identification of formats of petitions such as special leave petition – Form 28, Supreme Court Rules 2013, statutory appeals, etc., to facilitate in scrutiny of cases, removal of defects. Statement-B: Development of an artificial intelligence-based model for conversational use case chatbot in English and scheduled languages of the Constitution of India, 1950, to answer queries about case-related information, summarisation of judgments, court documents, etc. Evaluation Process After the application submission cut-off date, a screening and evaluation committee will shortlist 15 candidates based on their innovative ideas by the Supreme Court Rules, 2013. These candidates will present their proof of concept to the Selection-cum-Screening Committee. The shortlisted candidates will have to be present in New Delhi for the screening with evaluation committee. The event will be divided into multiple sessions, with each participant being allotted specific time for their presentation and proof of concept showcase. Each participant will have 30 minutes for their presentation, interaction, and Q&A session with the Selection-cum-Screening Committee and the Hon’ble Judge In-Charge. Pitches will be evaluated according to predefined parameters. The Selection-cum-Screening Committee will submit their evaluation results to the Hon’ble Judge In-Charge. The Hon’ble Judge In-Charge, in consultation with the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, will consider the committee's views to select the best proposition as the winner of Hackathon 2024 and the runner-up. The Supreme Court's decision regarding shortlisting is final and binding for all participants. The Supreme Court will score and rank each team based on predefined criteria, with final scores determining the Winner and Runner-Up.     Gratification/rewards Trophies to the winner and runner-up/s, Participation certificate for the shortlisted candidates Souvenir to the winner/s, runner up/s and the shortlisted candidates. Any statutory taxes, duties, or levies as may be applicable from time to time, arising out/ in respect of such prize, shall be payable by the Winner of the respective Prize.     Entry and Eligibility Entries must be submitted through the online entry form available on the Supreme Court website (www.sci.gov.in) and MyGov (https://innovateindia.mygov.in/). The Hackathon 2024 is open to Organizations (Firms, Company, Academic Institutions), Startups, and Individual/others in India with expertise in IT and AI. Solutions must be AI-based, unique, innovative, and compliant with Supreme Court Rules, 2013. They must address the problem statement provided and should not have been used elsewhere. Entries must be in English and submitted as prescribed in the form. Incomplete or inaccurate entries, or those submitted after the deadline, may be invalid. Acceptance of such entries is at the sole discretion of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court reserves the right to permit or restrict participation. Intellectual Property and Rights Entries protected under intellectual property rights are acceptable, but the Supreme Court is not liable for protecting proprietary or confidential information. Participants retain intellectual property rights to their ideas. Participants must own all rights or have necessary licenses for their submissions and provide confirmation upon request. Submissions must be original and not infringe on any third-party rights. The Supreme Court is not liable for any intellectual property breaches. Participants grant the Supreme Court the right to use their names, images, and submissions for advertising and publicity without additional compensation or approval.   General Terms The rules are governed by Indian law, and disputes are subject to New Delhi courts. Manipulation or unfair practices will result in disqualification. The Supreme Court can change, cancel, or suspend the Hackathon at any time. The Supreme Court is not responsible for any loss or damage resulting from participation or changes to the Hackathon. The Supreme Court is not liable for any disruptions or cancellations beyond its control. Decisions of the Supreme Court are final and binding. Integrate this data with GIS to provide real-time maps Utilize IoT sensors and GIS for urban environmental monitoring, pinpointing pollution (air, water, noise, urban heat islands) hotspots. Create an IoT precision agriculture solution using soil and crop data with GIS for optimized irrigation, planning, and resource allocation, boosting agricultural productivity sustainably. Utilize sensors to monitor relevant environmental parameters like water levels, soil moisture, temperature, and humidity. Incorporate GPS for precise location tracking of potential disaster zones. Implement GIS techniques to create hazard maps and establish risk zones, enabling timely evacuation and emergency response planning. Create an IoT solution using open hardware for monitoring wildlife habitats and tracking endangered species. Develop sensor nodes to collect data on wildlife movements, habitat conditions, and environmental factors. Integrate GPS modules for accurate geospatial tracking of animals. Utilize GIS tools to analyze the collected data, identify critical habitats, and plan conservation efforts effectively to protect endangered species and preserve biodiversity.  About the hackathon ISB Institute of Data Science, in collaboration with CyberPeace Foundation, is excited to host the ‘Hackathon 2024’ starting in March 2024 and concluding in July 2024. The Hackathon will offer students and professionals an opportunity to leverage their knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning techniques to develop solutions to detect deep fake images, videos, and text.  As technology evolves, so do the challenges it presents. In this hackathon, individuals in teams of 1 to 5 will embark on a transformative journey to develop innovative solutions for detecting deep fakes, an increasingly pertinent issue in today's digital landscape. The short-listed teams of the Hackathon will get an opportunity to pitch their final solutions to a jury comprising of ISB faculty and industry experts at the ISB Hyderabad campus.   Who can participate? Team of 1 to 5 participants.   How does the hackathon work? The Hackathon will run from March 2024 – July 2024.  A problem statement will be given to the participating team. The IIDS and CyberPeace Foundation will provide data sets for the model development. For round 1 participants/teams need to develop models and submit the same and presentation explaining the approach used. The jury will evaluate the models and shortlisted teams will get an opportunity to work on the second level of the problem statement at ISB Hyderabad Campus. About The DST, under its National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), has funded IIT Bhilai to host the TIH for the FinTech domain. The TIH at IIT Bhilai is one of the 25 hubs set up under the NM-ICPS program. IIT BHILAI INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY FOUNDATION (IBITF), a Section 8 Company, has been established by IIT Bhilai to host this TIH. IBITF is the nodal center for spearheading Entrepreneurship, R&D, HRD and Skill Development, and Collaboration-related activities in the area of FinTech.   About GCC GCC is a pre-incubation activity targeted mainly to discover innovative solutions for fintech-related problems. IBITF wishes to invite individuals from different regions with innovative solutions for solving issues and challenges (particularly in the Indian context) in one or more of the four thematic areas of financial technologies designated to the organization. Entrepreneurs need strong support and an advisory system in order to turn their start-up ideas into valuable businesses. As a part of the activities at IBITF, one of the ambitions is to establish a strong support system for entrepreneurship and start-ups in the Fintech arena. The Identification of problem areas is what differentiates the GCC from other hackathons or challenges conducted by educational institutions. IBITF, in consultation with relevant government departments, has been able to determine a few real-world problem statements in the specified Fintech domain(s), which, if resolved, would greatly benefit a large population or solve a major bottleneck by augmenting or replacing the traditional functioning of the financial sectors     Problem statements Click here to read details about the problem statements.     Eligibility Criteria The competition is open only to bona fide students of educational institutes of repute (Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTI)/NIRF ranking below100) of the course B.E./B. Tech (3rd and 4th Year) and M. Tech (1st year). Students shall apply individually or in groups, with a maximum of three students per group. Only those proposals that are duly signed and approved by the Director/Dean(R&D)/Head of the Institution would be accepted. All the proposals should be submitted for financial support ONLINE MODE ONLY. A copy of the same should be emailed to [email protected] Evaluation Process and Tentative Dates     Evaluation Process and Tentative Dates The Challenge would be implemented in multiple phases and each phase would maintain a set of pre-defined criteria for selection. Here are the six phases through which the identification of valuable innovations and ideas could be made feasible. Phase I - Go Live Accept Applications Applications open - June 27, 2022 The last date for submission of applications would be August 31, 2022   Phase II - Internal shortlisting by the IBITF team and the result announcement for expert committee review (Phase III) - (15 days post application submission ends)   Phase III- Evaluation of shortlisted proposals by the expert committee (15 days) and the result announcement for initial Presentation (Phase IV) (15 days post Phase II result announcement)   Phase IV - Initial Online/offline presentations of selected proposals before the expert committee and result announcement for the final presentation (Phase V) (within 20 days post Phase III results for initial presentations)   Phase V - Demonstration of POCs by selected teams (offline only) and announcement of winners (top 3) (As and when invited by IBITF post Phase IV results)     Patents and Intellectual Property Rights Innovative Products being developed should not have violated/ breached/ copied any product already launched and/or copyrighted or patented. For the product to be developed as part of the Grand Challenge, if any IPR/Patent is being used, contesting entity must possess the legitimate rights to use the IPR/Patents. If any IPR/Copyright/Patent is filed during/post-completion of the grand challenge, its rights would be jointly shared by the startup/student and the concerned government department that submitted the problem statement for the GCC and IBITF IBITF would also share the IPR/Copyright/Patent as per its startup policy, Post-signing the agreement with the student/startup (as per the startup policy of IBITF), IBITF would reserve the right to allow commercial applications of the IPR/Copyright/Patent.     Non-Disclosure Agreement The selected teams, after shortlisting would need to sign an NDA with the user organizations for getting access to the test data sets/information/other details shared by the user organizations.     Benefits to Participants Selected applications making it to the next phases would receive monetary prizes as detailed below. Eventually, a few selected startups would be qualified to register their product/service as a startup and receive financial assistance in the form of seed money from IIT-Bhilai. Applicants/teams that provide a very positive, effective, and efficient solution to a major bottleneck/challenge for the identified problem statements could be selected by your department and may receive work orders to implement such solutions on the ground.
